slow burn
ON VIEW FROM: 02/26/2025 - 05/17/2025
Loss leaves an emptiness that at times we try to fill with just about anything, and by any means necessary. Within that space, a profound longing for something new, or something different, or maybe even something the same takes hold and becomes the guiding force behind finding direction, finding something to fill the void. The work in this series are reflections on feelings of loss and longing, and musings of moving through the moments in between, which more often than not can feel like a deep and slow burn.
Nathan Burgess is a far west Texas raised, Austin based artist and designer with a background in psychology and old master style portraiture. Taking painting techniques learned through his time with portraiture and minimalist abstraction, he now creates cubist-inspired characters and compositions to connect with, explore, or make light of the deeper emotions within himself and within those around him. He enjoys painting, playing guitar, and picking his nose when he thinks no one is looking.
Some day he will be an owner (or co-owner) of a pinball bar, where he will spend his days among family, friends and familiars, and live happily ever after. the end.
